2025 IPL Today Match: Rajasthan vs Kolkata

After defeats by seven wickets to Royal Challengers Bengaluru and 44 runs against Sunrisers Hyderabad respectively, Rajasthan Royals and Kolkata Knight Riders will look to record their first wins of the 2025 Indian Premier League when they meet in Guwahati on Wednesday evening.

Rajasthan’s defeat came after Riyan Parag had won the toss and chosen to field. Still, he certainly would not have envisaged a target of 287 being presented to his side at the halfway point of the game after Sunrisers had hit 286/6, the second highest score in IPL history so far!

By leaking 76 of those runs, Jofra Archer conceded the most runs in an innings in IPL history and if selected, will be looking to end a run of three successive wicketless appearances in the tournament. 

As for KKR, the defence of their 2024 IPL title looked to be getting off to a strong start when they were 107/1 with one ball of the tenth over remaining. But they never really recovered from Sunil Narine’s dismissal from the following ball and Ajinkya Rahane’s side were easily beaten by RCB with 22 balls remaining of their chase.

Both teams won all three of their opening games in the 2024 IPL, with Rajasthan keeping their run going for an additional match, however, the loser of this clash will be waiting for their third fixture of this campaign still without posting a victory!

Rajasthan Royals Win Prediction

Although Rajasthan was beaten in Hyderabad on Sunday, they can still take some positives out of the defeat. Even in conceding 286 runs as a team, Tushar Deshpande marked his debut for the side with his third-best IPL figures of 3/44 and Rajasthan went on to hit 242/6 with the fixture becoming the second-highest match aggregate in IPL history!

Dhruv Jurel top scored for the Royals with 70 runs from 35 balls, the second time in his last three IPL innings that he has been the leading run-getter for the team. Sanju Samson also began the tournament with a half-century, hitting 66 runs from 37 balls and looks set to build on his best ever IPL from 2024 when he broke 500 runs for the first time.

Rajasthan did struggle against KKR from 2018 onwards, winning just three of their 11 H2Hs by the end of the 2022 campaign, but they come into this game targeting a third successive H2H victory in completed fixtures.

Kolkata Knight Riders Win Prediction

After hitting 33 sixes across the 2024 IPL, Sunil Narine hit another three in the defeat against RCB and in doing so became the 38th player to bring up 100 maximums across the history of the tournament. 

Although he was outscored by Ajinkya Rahane (56 runs from 31 balls) who also hit one more six than him, Narine returned the best figures of the bowling attack (1/27) with only Varun Chakravarthy (1/43) and Vaibhav Arora (1/42) also contributing a wicket.

All in all, the opening fixture of the competition was a disappointment for many big names on KKR’s team sheet including Quinton de Kock, Venkatesh Iyer, Andre Russell, Ramandeep Singh and Spencer Johnson who all contributed either a single-figure score or zero wickets and the five of them will all be targeting stronger performances against Rajasthan Royals.
